Google Launches 2012 Election Hub
?
Google.com/elections is a hub where citizens can study, watch, discuss, learn about, participate in and perhaps even make an impact on the digital campaign trail as it blazes forward to Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, according to Google?s blog. The page features news updates from around the Web including the candidates? schedules in Iowa today from The Washington Post and a background piece on the caucuses from the Oman Daily Observer. Links connect readers with candidates??YouTube videos , election-related search trends and a 2012 politics calendar provided by PBS.?
For a more social view with ready-made analysis, Google Politics on?Google+ ?is up and running. Already this morning (Jan. 3), Google has hosted ?hangouts? (live streaming video with room for online participants) with the Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, the crew from Good Morning America and a handful of political journalists. Google has set up a Media Filing Room for journalists and other guests where the G+ camera is standing by for more impomptu hangouts as the day unfolds.?
Four of the six?Republican ?candidates have their own Google+ pages ? ?+Newt Gingrich, +Ron Paul, +Rick Perry for President 2012 and +Mitt Romney ? but only Gingrich has posted today, including photos from this morning?s gathering at Elly?s Tea Room and a packed hall at The Drake.?
Google says that its new G+ page will focus on U.S. politics as well as cover global topics and encourage interaction from around the world.
