Tablet News Bits: Sony Tablet S Price Drop, ASUS CES Tablet Revealed, Lenovo and Acer Sticking with Wintel

With CES now only one week away, manufacturers are looking to clear out inventory in order to make room for the new tablets expected to be announced in Vegas. This includes Sony, which just discounted its unique Tablet S Android tablet by $100. The 16GB Sony Tablet S is now available for $400, while the 32GB Sony Tablet S is priced $500. The move follows a $50 temporary discount earlier this month.

ASUS Eee Memo Pad Leaks
[click to view image]In addition to a 7-inch ASUS Transformer Prime Mini tablet (possibly pictured), ASUS is also poised to announce the ASUS Eee Memo Pad, which will be another 7-inch tablet (1280 x 800) with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor. The device will come with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage and support both Wi-Fi and 3G. The Eee Memo Pad sounds suspiciously like the ASUS MeMO TabletPCReview handled at CES 2011, which was later announced as a glasses-free 3D tablet at Computex. So what will we ultimately see in Vegas? Who knows? But we won?t have to wait long to find out.

Samsung Galaxy Note Spotted with AT&T Branding
We know the?Galaxy Note?is coming Stateside, and it?s cleared for AT&T, and now an image has surfaced with the Note sporting AT&T branding, and the leak suggests the American Galaxy Note will support NFC.

Samsung confirmed the 5.3-inch tablet/smartphone will come to America following news the device had shipped a million units overseas.

Acer and Lenovo Ready Wintel Tablets
It may seem obvious that Acer and Lenovo will continue to produce Windows tablets with Intel chips, but DigiTimes is reporting it anyway, with tablet PCs sporting Windows 8 and an Intel Clover Trail chip set for the market in Q3 2012, when Windows 8 is rumored to launch.

According to the report, Intel is set to launch its Medfield mobile processor as an answer to the ARM chips found on virtually all mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, with the exception of Windows tablets and some Android devices. However, Lenovo and Acer are looking at Clover Trail over Medfield in order to compete with ARM's performance and power management.
