The commercial construction market in North Texas is picking up steam.

McGraw Hill Construction said Thursday that contracts for future nonresidential building in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in May were 57 percent higher than in the same month of 2012.

And contracts for future residential building rose 15 percent last month from May 2012.

So far in 2013, McGraw Hill reports that commercial construction contracts are up 17 percent and residential building contracts are up 23 percent compared with the first five months of 2012.
