A Little House Christmas at Adventure Theatre: Joyous Family ...

A Little House Christmas at the Adventure Theatre Musical Theater Center is a beautiful Christmas gift to local families, as this faithful adaptation of the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder is pure joy to watch. If there are kids in your house excited about Santa, you have to introduce them to Laura and Mary Ingalls, two pioneer girls who are also awaiting a visit from St. Nick. I recommend a visit to see this show as part of your family?s holiday celebrations. Catch it before the show closes on December 31!? The play chronicles the Christmas celebrations in the Ingalls? new cabin on the prairie. The family prepares for entertaining guests ? the feisty Olsen ladies, kind Mr. Edwards and Pa?s brother George, recently home from the Civil War. The family throws one heck of a country party, and then bonds together in love when nature changes their careful Christmas plans. My children Charlie, 9, and Eve, 6, loved the reality of the production ? how the mother cooks all the food in a wood stove, how water and wood must be fetched from outdoors to run the household ? and they were further fascinated that the play was based upon the books written by the character Laura, all grown up! (Guess what series my children will be finding under their tree?) My daughter Eve?s favorite part was the dancing? My son Charlie really enjoyed the post-Civil War side-story involving the girls? Uncle George? I personally loved the actors? portrayals of some of my favorite characters from the Little House books, such as Mrs. Olsen and her daughter Nellie? ?and Mr. Edwards, who is brought to life by one of the most delightful actors to watch at Adventure Theatre, Resident Artist and Instructor Danny Pushkin. (You may remember him from Charlotte?s Web , The Red Balloon and other productions, and he is also the writer of Pascal?s Aquarium which appeared to much acclaim at the Capital Fringe Festival.) A Little House Christmas is directed by Serge Seiden, the director of another of my favorite book adaptions and Adventure Theatre plays, Charlotte?s Web . Michael J. Bobbitt , Producing Artistic Director at Adventure Theatre MTC, says of the play, ?Coming home for the holidays [is] exactly the feeling Adventure Theatre MTC wants to give audiences with this production. A family?s love standing strong amid the strain of the outside world ? that?s where the heart of the holiday remains.? The show is recommended for ages four and up. Tickets are $19 each, with group and field trip rates available, and can be purchased through the box office by calling 301-634-2270 or online at www.adventuretheatre-mtc.org .? Children under the age of 1 are free. All performances will take place at Adventure Theatre MTC, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD, 20812 in the historic Glen Echo Park. There are shows nearly each day between now and December 31, some days have two showtimes. Check out the available dates and purchase tickets. Disclosure: We received three complimentary press passes for the show; no further compensation received. All opinions are expressed are my own.
