Recently, the buzz around the MakeUseOf gaming office has been all about the PlayStation Vita. I have just finished a lengthy review on the device, and so far, I could not be happier. While the Vita does all kinds of cool stuff with the integration of a web browser and apps, its primary purpose in life is to be a gaming system, and to be a good gaming system, you need good games.

The Vita is still in its infancy, so the best is yet to come as far as games are concerned. The device features so many different control inputs that it might take developers a little while to wrap their head around how to make it work best for their game. Still, there are some quality games available for the PlayStation Vita. If the features of the Vita are not enough to make you want one, maybe the surprisingly good choice of games will put you over the edge.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

In my opinion, Uncharted is to Sony as Halo is to Microsoft. For me, it is their premier exclusive franchise, and it comes as no surprise that Sony made damn sure to have an Uncharted game ready for the Vita. The beauty of Golden Abyss is that it?s just as good as its console big brothers.

Golden Abyss plays just like the PS3 version of the game. Players will be scaling cliff faces, shooting plenty of enemies and taking part in an awesome story, just like they would if they were sitting on their couch playing Uncharted 3. Speaking of Uncharted 3, this game looks almost as good as the full console game. If you are looking for a game to show your friends how insane the graphics on the Vita are, look no further.

Rayman: Origins

When I picked this game up, I was not sure what to expect. I have not played a Rayman game in what feels like forever, so I went into this with an open mind. I was surprised at how much I loved it. I got the Vita with the intention of Uncharted being my go-to game, but I barely even touched Uncharted until after I finished Rayman.

Rayman does not do anything on the Vita that could not be done on another platform, but in a way, that is why I love it. It shows me that you can have a traditional platforming experience on the Vita. At times, I forgot I was even playing a portable game, and for me, that is exactly what I want from my Vita games.

Mortal Kombat

Honestly, Mortal Kombat on the Vita blew me away. Much like Rayman, it feels exactly like playing the console version of the game. The controls work amazingly well, and pulling off the string of button presses to perform fatalities is comfortable and just as easy to pull off as on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

It looks beautiful and is just a damn good game. Like Uncharted, this is one of those games that you can show your friends and see the shocked look on their face when they realize how impressive the graphics look. The five-inch screen might seem small for an intense fighting game, but it works incredibly well. Seriously, if you get a Vita, you need to own Mortal Kombat.

Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack

This is a great game to pick up if you are on a budget. After all, the Vita is an expensive piece of hardware, so getting a well-made game for only $8 is awesome. It is a really well done platform/puzzler where you control a blob that must eat everything smaller than he to advance through the level. It is like a mix of Katamari and LocoRoco.

It looks good, and it makes great use of the PlayStation Vita?s control options. If you are looking for a fun game that will get you thinking without breaking the bank, I would highly recommend checking out Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Its name might be generic, but the gameplay is anything but.
