After Wednesday GOP Debate, Still Not Ready to Choose a Candidate (ContributorNetwork)
Yahoo! News is asking GOP voters in Iowa and New Hampshire for their impressions from the Republican debates. Here is a perspective from a voter.
COMMENTARY | My television was tuned into the GOP debate held on Wednesday night. Eight Republican presidential candidates took stage to entice viewers to vote for them in the 2012 primaries. I, for one, was very interested in each candidate's position on the economy, health care and Social Security. I was not disappointed, as each one of these topics was discussed.
Before I delve into my opinion on my favorite candidate, I would like to say I felt that the debate was slanted toward Romney. My perception was he received the most questions and was allowed to elaborate in greater detail than the remaining seven candidates. Is my perception correct or was he the only candidate with adequate words to describe his running platform?
Cain received one question concerning the allegations of his involvement with inappropriate sexual conduct and the faith of the people of the United States. I feel he answered the question extremely well by referring to the incident as a smear campaign to put him on trial by the public for unfounded accusations. Applause to you Mr. Cain! The smear campaigns need to stop by both parties and the politicians need to focus on the task at hand.
On this same subject matter, the commentators turned to Romney immediately after Cain's answer and asked him a direct question about whether he has faith in Cain. Romney's moral values appeared when he squelched that question immediately by saying Cain needed to answer for himself.
I would have enjoyed hearing more from Huntsman on his campaign platform on the economy, health care, and Social Security. The few questions that he did answer were direct and to the point. Huntsman's "too big to fall" statement hit home. This would keep the government out of debt by removing their hands from the business world, but would the economy be in worse shape?
After listening to the debate, I am not ready to choose a candidate at this time. I feel strongly that Cain, Romney and Huntsman are the top three runners.
